''Here We Create the Future'' Teacher Training

Updated: Jun 11, 2024

In the heart of Leeuwarden, an interactive teacher training event – ‘’Here We Create the Future’’ – took centre stage. Set amidst the rich history of this city, educators from various countries came together to engage in a learning and training week. Let’s delve deeper into this enriching program.

On Sunday the 10th of September the program started with a visit to the Weekends School in Sneek. The teachers not only observed but actively joined the classes, starting with engaging games and activities. After the break, they immersed themselves in the resilience class, focusing on self defence and the significance of setting boundaries. The day ended with an authentic Dutch meal, featuring delights such as frikandel and bitterballen, hosted by a local partner at their residence.

The second day was held at the Kanselarij in Leeuwarden. The day was brimming with sessions that highlighted the unique features of a Weekend School. Topics spanned the school’s mission, vision, foundational starting points, parent involvement strategies and many more. The session was not just theoretical, practical insights, hands-on experiences and language games kept the day interactive. One notable topic discussed was the significant role of social media, including dedicated YouTube channels and encouraging students to be entrepreneurial.

The following days, also at the Kanselarij, facilitated deeper dives into the topic and nuances of establishing a Weekend School in the various countries. Any topics missed in the previous learning days were discussed, ensuring a comprehensive and complete learning experience, and there was time for some storytelling by one of our Turkish partners. On the final day, educators followed the ‘’Stay Strong in Your Class’’ training, learning more about tone of voice, they way they walk and present themselves.

This teacher training week delved deep into the topic of setting up and running a Weekend School, giving the teachers the right tools and knowledge to start in their own countries. Keep an eye on our website and social media channels, to see any updates on the new Weekend Schools!
